Translation

Here lies a servant of God, Theodore.

Commentary

The inscription was found together with V 273.

1–3. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.F.d.

3–4. On the name Theodore, see commentary to V 275. We should note dittography of one syllable (cf. V 277).

Although neither the monument, nor the transcription survive, the place and circumstance of the find, as well as the monument's physical description leave no doubt that it was a typical Bosporan tombstone of the IV-Vth centuries.
