Translation

Fell asleep: a servant of God, Kalana, on the 25th day of the 4th month, in the year 6836.

Commentary

Latyshev's edition is based on the estampage made by Bertye-Delagard. The old photo is preserved at the Photo Archive, Institute for History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences (I–3179; О.710.81; О.1529.56).

1–2. On the formula, see Introduction IV.3.F.e.

2. On the name, see V 127, V 128.

2–3. The fourth month is probably December (cf. V 60, V 89, V 151), which means Kalana died on Christmas.

The tombstone of Kalana must have been reused in the construction, or reconstruction, of the church in 1594 (see Latyshev 1896, 64–65, № 57).
